Miners Picked Up 1 and add a Few to the Top List.

The Miners took the short trip east to the town out east (Hazen) for a smaller meet on Monday April 20th. Monday was one of the nicest day of the season thus far and most athletes took advantage of the weather. The Miners had 40 new PR's on the day and had 9 kids get on or improve their marks on our Top 10 List. Overall the Miners had a lot of improvement in marks on the day and enjoyed the day.
The Boys had a good day overall with athletes picking up 19 PR's and picked up one new state qualifier. The Boys had only 1 event champ on the day in Junior Anthony Hallett in the shot put with a throw of 44' 9.5" which improves his mark on the Top 10 but did not move his spot. The team had 4 second place finishes on the day. Freshman Daniel Blackhurst finished 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 5:02.24 which put him 8th on the Top 10 list. Junior Hudson Scheurer took 2nd in the 110m hurdles which improved his mark in the Top 10 but did not change spots. The 4x400 relay team made of Briggs Jensen, Owen Ziman, Daniel Blackhurst, and Jonas Braun took 2nd. The best second place performance of the day came out of Sophomore Brady Schaner who also qualified for the State Meet in discus with a throw of 135' 7". This throw did not put him on our Top 10 but is close to being on the list. The boys had one other performance that got on the Top 10 List in 8th grader Briggs Jensen in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 46.09 which puts him 10th overall all and knocks off his current teammate in Hudson. The Boys team lowered their time in both the 4x100 and 4x200 which are both getting closer to the qualifying standard. Overall the boys finished 4th overall at the meet and had a good day.
The Girls had a great day as well as they had 21 new PR's and added more to their Top 10 as well. The Girls had 4 event champs on the day. Double event champ in Junior Addison Schepp in the 300m and 100m Hurdles. Addison posted her best time this year in the 300m hurdles. The Girls 4x100 relay also won and got closer to the qualifying standard with a time of 52.97. Members of the team are Chloe Kalvoda, Addison Schepp, Braelyn Hottman, and Isabella Schnaidt. The last event champ was Senior Malayah Williams in the shot put with a throw of 39' 8.5" which is a new PR and improves her mark on the Top 10 list but does not change her spot of 2nd all time. The girls only picked up 1 second place finish in Freshman RyLee Yantzer in the 1600m run. The Girls did pick up 4 other Top 10 list movers on the day. Junior Tori Ziman now sits 9th overall in Discus with at throw of 110' 11". Sophomore Brooklyn Byrum now sits alone in 5th place in High Jump at 4' 10". Sophomore Eva Unruh became 7th overall in Shot Put with a throw of 33' 2.5". Lastly Freshman Tinley Kraft is now 10th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 28' 4". The Girls team ended up tied for 1st overall at the meet.

With the addition of Brady Schaner on Monday both the boys and girls teams have multiple participants at the state meet. The girls have 3 so far in Addison Schepp, Addison Dale-Geiger, and Malayah Williams. While the boys have Cooper Schepp and Brady Schaner. Both teams will look to keep adding more to list through a few relays and open events that other athletes are getting closer to the qualifying standards. The Miners will be back in action on Thursday April 23rd weather permitting in Bowman for the Badlands Conference meet. The Miners will then have a busy week starting next week Tuesday April 28th in Dickinson.
