Miners Battle some Wind but have a Successful Day

The Miners went to Minot on Saturday May 9th for the Glenburn Invite. The meet was a last chance for the Miners to qualify for state meet before the Regional meet on Tuesday. The Miners did find some new athletes that made the marks for the state meet as well as some new personal mark improvements on the season. Saturday was a bit windy in Minot but also brought a bit of warm weather for the athletes.

The Girls team had a great day with picking up 4 new girls for the state meet along with some new performances in the Top 10 List and a new School Record. The team got all their new qualifiers at about the same time. On the track the girls 4x100 relay team qualified for the state meet with members Braelyn Hottman, Isabelle Schnaidt, Maci Schnaidt, and Addison Schepp. About the same time down in the throws Tori Ziman qualified for Discus with a throw of 112' 4". Congrats to all the girls that qualified for state. This now brings the total to 8 girls going to the state meet. Earlier in the day the girls 4x200 relay took 2nd and missed qualifying by .04 seconds. In the early field sections Addison Schepp was having a great day in Long Jump as she broke her own record in the event with a jump of 18' 2". The girls also had both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays move on the Top 10 as the 4x100 relay moved to a tie for 7th all-time and the 4x200 relay got on the as the 8th fastest all-time. Tori Ziman moved back to 9th all-time in Discus after being bumped down a few days earlier. Braelyn Hottman ties teammate Addison Schepp for 10th all-time in the 200m dash. Ella Nash improved her mark in pole-vault to 7' but is still 10th on the list. The Girls had 4 event champs on the day in the 4x100 relay, Long Jump, 100m Hurdles (Addsion S), and Shot Put (Malayah W). The girls had 2 second place finishes in Discus (Malayah W) and the 4x200 relay. The Girls placed in 13 of 19 events on the day and took 2nd overall at the meet. The girls got a lot of things done on Saturday but will look forward to finishing off a few things on Tuesday at Regionals.

For the Boys they did not accomplish as much in what they wanted to get done before the regional meet but still had some good performances. The boys team only had one 2nd place finish on the day In Cooper Schepp in the 110m Hurdles. Cooper did beat his previous school record as he now gets the time under 16 seconds. Brady Schaner had a good day in Discus as he improved his best to 138' 8". Brady is still just off the all-time list still with his throw. The Boys team only scored in 8 of 19 events on the day. The Boys had 11 new PR's on the day. The boys finished 10th overall as a team. The Boys will have a lot to get done at Regionals on Tuesday to get more athletes to the State meet.

The Miners don't have much time off before the Regional Meet on Tuesday in Beach. The team will refocus and get a practice on Monday to get ready for Regionals. Tuesdays meet will start at 11:00 am CT with Field events and Running events starting at Noon CT.
