Miners Finish off Season on a High Point at the State Meet

The Miners left for Bismarck on Thursday May 21st for the 3 day State Track & Field Meet. 19 Miners competed at the State Meet with 12 Girls and 7 Boys. The Miners had athletes going on all 3 days for the meet. The Miners had a lot of great performances with a few low points. Overall the Miner had a good showing on the podium during the meet.

Day 1 started the day with Girls High Jump and Boys Discus. Brooklyn Byrum was up first with High jump, she had two rough attempts at 4'8 (opening height) and had a much better attempt on #3 but still knocked the bar down and was out of the competition. Next up was Boys Discus with Anthony Hallet and Brady Schaner. Both boys threw in flight 2 of 3 in the event. Anthony had some great throws and hit a nice PR in Discus 140'6" on his final throw. Brady was a little inconsistent in the ring with a couple of foul throws and placed 25th. While waiting on to see if Anthony made finals the Girls 4x200 Relay made of Elva Jasso, RyLee Yantzer, Braelyn Hottman, and Isabelle Schnaidt competed next. Looking for a little redemption after being DQ last year. They ran a season PR of 1:49.87 which tied them 7th all time in school history and finished 21st overall at the meet. Anthony would make finals with his throw and came in sitting 8th in finals. Anthony had 3 good throws but would not improve his place and would make the podium as 8th place. Congrats to Anthony and putting the boys on the board at State Meet. Last thing for Day 1 was three girls competing in Discus with Tori Ziman, Malayah Williams, and Bailey Buchfinck. Tori and Malayah threw in Flight 1 of 3 with Bailey in Flight 2. All 3 Girls threw well but would need their best throws to make finals and fell a little short. Tori placed 22nd, Bailey placed15th, and Malayah placed 14th. This ended Day 1 for the Miners and the team would head to the hotel to regroup for Day 2.

Day 2 started off fairly well with decent weather and performances. The Miners had Addison Schepp start us off early at 9:30am in Long Jump. Addison start off well with 3 jumps all over 16' and making the finals sitting 4th. During that time Addison would have to run the 300m hurdles. She ran a good race and won her heat which automatically qualified her for finals on Saturday. Her brother Cooper also ran the 300m hurdles about that time. Cooper had a good race going but hit the 5th hurdle and went down. After the 300m hurdles Addison had her Long Jump competition and finals. Addison performed well as she had 5 of 6 jumps over 16' and only one foul. Addison had her best jump of 16' 10" on her final jump and finished 4th. Addison got on the podium for the first Girl of the State Meet for the Miners. Next up was Malayah Williams in Shot Put. Malayah started with a some good throws and made finals. Malayah had two throws over 40' with her best being 41'4" and placed 3rd. Malayah ended her career as a 3 time placer at the state meet in the Shot Put. Congrats Malayah. After Shot Put we would be back to the track for the rest of the day. Addison Schepp would run the 100m hurdles and finished first in her heat and with the prelims best time of 15.45. Cooper Schepp would follow after in the 110m Hurdles and finished 2nd in his heat with a time of 15.76. Both Addison and Cooper would automatically qualify for the finals on Saturday. As hurdles started to finish up the rain started for the day. The Girls 4x100 was next and would be ran in the rain. The team made up of Emma Dschaak, Isabelle Schnaidt, Maci Schnaidt, and Braelyn Hottman battled the rain and wet conditions and ran well and placed 26th. Last up was the 4x800 relay Boys made of of Sebastian Nichols, Daniel Blackhurst, Hudson Scheurer, and Owen Ziman. The boys battled the rain like the girls and ran a good race and ended up 15th overall. The team went back to the hotel to get dry and warmup before having a great team meal and resting up for day 3.

Day 3 started early again as we had Triple Jump at 9:30am with Bailey Buchfinck and Addison Schepp. Bailey was up first and had some good attempts on the runway and finished her jumps with a 30'6.5". Addison was in heat 3. Addison was able to make finals sitting 8th but had to run her finals in the 300 Hurdles before finals in triple jump. Addison went on the track to run the 300m Hurdles and ran a good races with some great girls and placed 6th. Addison was on the podium for the 2nd time for the State Meet. Addison went back and added her best jump of 34'5.5 which moved her up but after all the jumpers Addison still finished 8th overall. Addison made her 3rd trip to the podium. We had two last events going on at about same time girls javelin and the 100m/110m Hurdles. In the javelin we had Tori Ziman and Addison Dale-Geiger. Tori threw in the first flight and finished with her best throw at 94'10. Teammate Addison Dale-Geiger threw in the 3rd flight and had a throw of 122' which put her into finals. Addison would give 3 more good throws in finals and finish 4th overall. Congrats Addison on placing and good luck with State Softball next weekend. While finals in Javelin were happening on the track we had the 100/110m Hurdles with Addison Schepp and Cooper Schepp. Addison was up first as she came into the State Meet with the best time on the season and coming out of prelims. Addsion got off to a good start and was pushed by the competition of the other girls. Addison pulled ahead during the last two hurdles to seal the deal of being the 2026 Class B 100m hurdles Champion with at time of 15.26. Addison was on the podium for the 4th time during the State Meet. This was her redemption from last year in her words for what happen last year at state with the 100m hurdles and the rest of the meet. Congrats Addison on a awesome year and amazing State Meet. Cooper Schepp was up a bit after his sister was done with her victory. Cooper got off to a great start and finished the race with a time of 15.79 and placed 5th. Cooper has now placed twice in the 110m Hurdles and is only a freshman. All three placers where on the podium all about the same time. Miners had finished their State Meet on a high note. After all the excitement the girls team was sitting tied for 3rd overall with about 4 events left to be scored. The team would take pictures and get camp put away and wait to see if the Girls would end up top 5 and get a team trophy. We had to wait until the end of the meet with the 4x400 relay for the girls to finally fall out of the top 5. The Girls would end up tied for 7th overall at the end of the day only missing top 5 by 2 points. The Girls had a great showing this year compared to the past few years as this is the highest placing Girls team since 2023. The boys would end up 30th overall which was better then the past few years as well.

Overall the team had a great meet with a lot of great moments with a few down moments. Out of the 19 kids at state only 3 of them are Seniors in Sebastian Nichols, Addison Dale-Geiger, and Malayah Williams. Thank you to you 3 seniors along with all our seniors this season. We will miss you all. The Miners hope to bring back the other 16 athletes that made state along with more next season to make the push to finish higher as a team. Thank you to all our parents who help pack coolers and provided food for our athletes at the season and during the State Meet. We could do things without all the support we get during the season. Thank you to all our coaches Amber Blackhurst, Destinee Jensen, JoDee Dacar, Eli Barbot, Russ Haugstad, Jason Pulver, Kelly Huffman, and Lynn Huffman that help during the year. I know Coach Brown and Myself couldn't do things without all of you. Finally thank you to all the athletes in our program. Keep working hard and keep improving.

Next up for the Miners is sometime off and the Summer off season. Most if not all our athletes will be in the weight room and hitting up camps getting ready for next year and all their activities. It was a great year for the Miners in Track & Field along with a lot of other activities. Thank you all for the support this year and we will see you all next season.
