The Miners went to Washburn on Thursday April 16th for the Southern McLean Invite. The Miners had a great day as both the Boys and Girls finished 2nd overall as a team. The Miners had a total of 17 PR's on the day and improved a lot of their relay times during the meet. The teams didn't pick up any new qualifiers but had a few new marks that are close to making the standard.
The Boys took 2nd overall and had a total of 12 new PR's for their athletes. The Boys only had 1 event champ in the 4x400 relay team. Members of the team are Rhyse Unruh, Cooper Schepp, Sebastian Nichols, and Owen Ziman. The team also had 2 other groups in the same relay with those teams placing 3rd and 4th. The team had three 2nd place finishes on the day. Each of the placers had a good performance as Daniel Blackhurst 2nd place finish in the 800m puts him 8th with at time of 2:13.91 on our Top 10 Board. The other two 2nd place finishers in Brady Schaner and Cooper Schepp both missed qualifying for State by inches. Brady missed discus qualifying mark by 8 inches and Cooper missed the long jump mark by 6 inches. The boys placed in 11 out of 19 events on the day. The boys will look to keep improving their marks in events and maybe qualify for the state meet at their next meet.
The Girls also took 2nd overall and had 5 new PR's on the day. The girls had 2 event champs in RyLee Yantzer in the 800m with a time of 2:37.18 and Malayah Williams in the Discus with a throw of 105'. Both marks are their best marks of the season thus far. They also had three 2nd place finishes on the day with Addison Schepp in the 100m, Malayah in Shot Put, and 4x400 relay team consisting of RyLee Yantzer, Addison Scheep, Braelyn Hottman, and Elva Jasso. The Girls placed in 11 out of 19 events at the meet with having multiple placers in the 800m, 100m Hurdles, 4x400, Discus, and High Jump. Just like the Boys team the Girls team will look to improve their marks at the next meet.
