Miners Fight Highs and Lows at Regional Meet

The Miners had their Southwest Region Meet on Saturday May 17th in Dickinson. The Miners had their eyes set on getting more athletes to the State Meet as well as competing for top 5 and top 3 finishes from their teams. The Miners fought the highs and lows of the region meet as they had athletes with some great performance well missing some athletes due to the meet switching dates. The Miners had a strong showing in the hurdles events at the Region meet as they had a total of 9 Placers between the boys and girls. The relays were another strength for the Miners as 4 of the 8 Relay teams took 4th place or better. One of the strengths of the Miners has been the Throws on the year. On Saturday the Thowers suffered a bit of an off day with only having 5 placers on the day while having 11 athletes in positions to place or make finals coming into the region meet. The Miner had 19 PR's on the day.
The Girls had 1 Region Event Champ in Addison Schepp with the 100m Hurdles. They had two 2nd place finishes with Addison Schepp in the 300m Hurdles and Hannah McGraw in Pole Vault. They also had 2 3rd place finishes with Addison Schepp in Triple Jump and Emaley Keller in Javelin. A top 3 finish at regionals is a automatic State Qualifier. Addison and Hannah had previously qualfied their events. While Emaley is a new qualifier on the day for the girls. Emaley had a throw of 114' 5" which is 7" off the normal qualifying standard. The girls got additional placers in RyLee Yantzer (6th 200m and 6th 1600m), Emma Dschaak (6th 100m Hurdles), Braelyn Hottman (8th 100m Hurdles and 6th 300m Hurdles), Keelyn Barmoen (7th 100m Hurdles), Elva Jasso (8th 300m Hurdles), Malayah Williams (4th Shot Put), Tori Ziman (4th Discus), Bailey Buchfinck (6th Discus and 8th Triple Jump), Addison Dale-Geiger (5th Javelin), and Brooklyn Byrum (8th High Jump). The Girls had 12 PR's on the day with some coming at a good time of the year to help place high at regionals. The Relays for the girls had the 4x100 place 4th, the 4x200 place 6th, the 4x400 place 5th, and the 4x800 place 5th. The Girls had eyes set on a Top 3 Finish on the the day but just missed out as they placed 4th overall out of 11 teams. The Girls have a total of 10 athletes that qualified for the State Meet. Last year the girls had 8 state qualifiers.
The Boys only had 1 Region Champ with Cooper Schepp in the 300m Hurdles. They had one 2nd Place on the day with the 4x100 relay. Members of the team are Rhyse Unruh, Shane Schmidt, Jonas Braun, and Cooper Schepp. They also had a 3rd place finish with the 4x200 relay. Members of the team are Zyon Phelps, Shane Schmidt, Jonas Braun, and Cooper Schepp. These event qualifiers are all new qualifiers for the Boys team. Cooper missed the normal standard for qualifying by .02, while the 4x100 just missed the normal standard by .26 seconds. The Boys had other placers in Hudson Scheurer (7th 110m Hurdles) and Cooper Schepp (4th Long Jump). The 4x400 relay was 7th and 4x800 relay was 4th. The boys had 7 PR's on the day. The boys did have a few athletes just miss out on placing on the day. The boys had their eyes set on the Top 5 but ended 7th overall out of 11 teams. The boys added 4 more qualifiers on the day which now puts their total to 7 kids. Last year the boys only had 3 state qualifiers.

The 10 Girls that qualified for State are Seniors Hannah McGraw, Paige Sailer, Junior Malayah Williams, Sophomores Emaley Keller, Addison Schepp, Braelyn Hottman, Freshman Emma Dschaak, 8th Graders RyLee Yantzer, Elva Jasso, and 7th Grader Maci Schnaidt. The 7 Boys that qualified for State are Senior Austin Mittelsteadt, Juniors Shane Schmidt, Jonas Braun, Sophomore Anthony Hallett, Freshman Rhyse Unruh, Zyon Phelps and 8th Grader Cooper Schepp.
We would like to thank all our senior this year. A lot of them had their season end this past week with a few going to the state meet. Thank you Jada Schulz, Hannah McGraw, Paige Sailer, Kade Heid, Cayden Isaak, Brady Keller, and Austin Mittelsteadt. Thank you for all the great memories and for the efforts you have put in over the past few years.
The Miners will head to the State Meet on Thursday May 22nd as events start at 3:30pm in Bismarck and finishes up on Saturday May 24th.
